Home Demo vs Studio: What You Should Know Before You Book
Voice profile demos show you the quality to expect. This means professional home studio or studio recordings. Listen before you book; it sets your reference.
Voice profile demos show you the quality to expect. This means professional home studio or studio recordings. Listen before you book; it sets your reference.
The demo on a voice profile is your primary reference. Most Voices actors record in their professional home studios; others also work in external studios. You will always hear exactly what you get beforehand. For your project, simply upload your script and you will receive broadcast-quality audio.
Professional home studios deliver WAV at 48 kHz, suitable for TV, radio, online, and telephony. Our actors invest in acoustics, microphones, and monitoring. The demo on their profile accurately reflects this setup.
Sometimes a director might request live direction or a shared session with video. You can specify this in your project briefing. For standard corporate work, telephony, and advertising spots, home studio delivery is perfectly sufficient.
The demo on the site is an existing recording. If the project allows, you can request a short trial recording using your own script before confirming the full order. This lets you hear the tone with your specific words.
You can read more about recording quality in our script article and on our Studio FAQ for workshops.

What exactly does a buy-out entail in voice-over?
A buy-out is the right to use your recording on a medium (radio, TV, online, telephony) for an agreed period. You'll see it reflected in your price before payment on /tarieven/.

How much does a professional voice-over cost?
The price depends on three factors: the medium (corporate video, radio advert, telephony), the licence duration (1 year, unlimited) and the script length. With Voices, you see the exact price per voice artist before you order. No surprises later on.
A short corporate video starts from a modest amount. A radio advert with national reach costs more due to the buyout (broadcasting rights). Telephone messages are generally the most affordable.
Tip: enter your script for the voice of your choice and you will instantly see the cost.
Is a home demo as good as a studio demo?
How do I write a good voice-over script?
A good script is short and conversational. Write as you would speak, not as you would write an email. Use short sentences and avoid any abbreviations the voice artist would have to interpret.
Indicate where pauses should go, which words should be emphasised, and the tone you're looking for (e.g. corporate, warm, energetic). The clearer your directions, the better the final result.

Can I listen in live during the recording?
When an actor offers live direction or listen-in, it appears as an option in the flow (e.g. Source-Connect, Zoom, Cleanfeed). It is not an automatic default for every voice, it depends on what that actor publishes on their profile.

“Request submitted and they review the text again, making some adjustments where necessary. If there's any detail the client finds a bit difficult in the produced audio, they resolve it very quickly and create a new audio on the same day. Highly recommended and very professional service now. Top! I was assisted and recorded by Johfrah.”
