Go behind the scenes of recording an advertising voice. See why calm and credibility always win over volume.
You are driving home quietly after a long working day. Suddenly, a hyper-enthusiastic voice screams an advert through your speakers about a temporary discount at the local supermarket. Your first instinct is not to rush to the shop, but to quickly turn down the volume. That shouty tone grates. The advertiser wants to grab your attention, but achieves the opposite: irritation and rejection. The assumption that an advertising voice needs to be loud, energetic, or striking to sell is no longer true. Today, the real power of persuasion lies in calm, authenticity, and credibility.
In our recording studio, we see daily how the best results appear when we mentally turn down the volume. Many brands still think they need to shout above the noise to be heard. But a voice that tries too hard to sell immediately loses its credibility.
Think of a good voice as a guide who walks calmly beside you, showing you the way, instead of a market vendor with a megaphone blaring in your ear. Today's listener is smart enough to see through sales tactics. As soon as a voice sounds too artificial or too enthusiastic, we switch off. We want to be spoken to by a real person, with natural breathing and genuine intonation.
When we start a new recording session, we look for that precise balance between professional clarity and human warmth. Our agency's platform has 92 publicly available voices that master this nuance perfectly. Our voice actors speak exclusively in their native language, whether that is Flemish, French (BE), German, or Spanish.
Take Lonneke, for example, one of our Dutch voices from the Netherlands. She can convey a message very naturally, warmly, and freshly without falling into that typical advertising tone.
For international projects, we often hear Aleksander, a voice from Poland who speaks Polish and immediately evokes a deep sense of trust and credibility. The secret of these voices is that they do not act enthusiastic; they speak to the listener as if they were standing right in front of them.
As a voice director, my job is to actively filter out that artificial advertising tone during the recording session. Often, a voice actor starts the first take with a lot of projection and a wide smile. That sounds professional, but sometimes a bit distant too.
Practical director's tip: Do you notice the voice sounds too much like a commercial? Ask the voice actor to speak the text aloud as if they are telling the news to a good friend at the kitchen table. Ask them to almost whisper the text. By removing the physical pressure from the voice, the artificial volume disappears, and the pure, credible core of the message remains. That is the recording that ultimately truly resonates with the listener.
The behind-the-scenes process of a voice recording follows a fixed, clear structure to guarantee quality.
Customers appreciate this clear approach. For example, Irma let us know in her review: "Very satisfied with Voices. Smooth communication and good quality." David also shared his experience: "Fast, efficient and very customer-friendly!"
When booking a voice, it is good to understand how fees are structured, so there are no surprises afterwards. For a commercial production, we use a clear system. You pay a fixed basic fee for the physical recording in the studio. In addition, there is a buy-out for the use and rights of the recording. This amount depends on the medium where the advert will be heard and the campaign's duration. For non-commercial projects, such as an internal corporate video, we usually charge per word or per project. Since each project is unique, we are happy to provide a custom quote for your specific production.

A native voice not only speaks the language flawlessly, but also understands the cultural nuances and the correct accent of a region. This creates a natural connection with the local listener, which is almost impossible to imitate with a learned accent.
Yes, this is possible for most recordings. By listening live via a connection, you can give direct feedback on the pronunciation of brand names or desired emphases, which significantly shortens the project's lead time.

“Request submitted and they review the text again, making some adjustments where necessary. If there's any detail the client finds a bit difficult in the produced audio, they resolve it very quickly and create a new audio on the same day. Highly recommended and very professional service now. Top! I was assisted and recorded by Johfrah.”

How much does a professional voice-over cost?
The price depends on three factors: the medium (corporate video, radio advert, telephony), the licence duration (1 year, unlimited) and the script length. With Voices, you see the exact price per voice artist before you order. No surprises later on.
A short corporate video starts from a modest amount. A radio advert with national reach costs more due to the buyout (broadcasting rights). Telephone messages are generally the most affordable.
Tip: enter your script for the voice of your choice and you will instantly see the cost.
What exactly does a buy-out entail in voice-over?
A buy-out is the right to use your recording on a medium (radio, TV, online, telephony) for an agreed period. You'll see it reflected in your price before payment on /tarieven/.

What is the difference between a commercial and a corporate voice-over?
For a commercial (radio spot, TV advert, online advertisement), you pay a buyout: the right to broadcast the recording on the chosen medium for an agreed period. The price is higher because the reach is greater.
A corporate voice-over (corporate video, internal presentation, e-learning) falls into the non-broadcast or internal use category. For these, you only pay the session fee, without a media buyout.
Unsure which category applies? Select your medium in the configurator and the price will adjust automatically.
How do I write a good voice-over script?
A good script is short and conversational. Write as you would speak, not as you would write an email. Use short sentences and avoid any abbreviations the voice artist would have to interpret.
Indicate where pauses should go, which words should be emphasised, and the tone you're looking for (e.g. corporate, warm, energetic). The clearer your directions, the better the final result.
